10/GUI Desktop Interface Prototype

10/GUI from C. Miller on Vimeo.

10/GUI, a prototype interface by R. Clayton Miller, is a new way of interacting with the computer. We're all familiar with touch screens, but what Miller proposes is separating the touch from the screen and bringing your hands back to where you normally would use a keyboard and a mouse.

Desktop multitouch imaging

Working with small screens and a mouse plus keyboard combination is the current state of art when it comes to image editing. This can be problematic in a number of ways, especially when working in a team. Also, it is not natural to use a mouse to draw and edit images. Multi-touch image editing uses a natural flow and offers a bigger, detailed view of the image at hand. We used hand gestures in combination with a »magic pencil« as an additional tool for working. This pen helps the user to cut out objects and draw fine lines with a familiar device.

Microsoft's Ball Sphere Touchscreen

After months of rumors, Microsoft researchers are taking the wraps off a prototype that uses an internal projection and vision system to bring a spherical computer display to life. People can touch the surface with multiple fingers and hands to manipulate photos, play games, spin a virtual globe, or watch 360-degree videos.
